Hello! I am so pleased how the children have come back after half term.
We have been Phonics mad this week in preparation for the Phonics Check. Year 1 have been reading real and nonsense words with their robot arms and phoneme fingers. We have practised reading two syllable words and ensuring we don’t add in any extra sounds when blending. If you have any opportunity to go onto www.phonicsplay.co.uk and play “Obb and Bob” or “Buried Treasure” this weekend it would be great.
In Numeracy the children have been comparing numbers using language such as “more, less, greater, smaller, greatest, smallest”. We look at the tens digit first, then the ones digit in order to compare accurately. Year 1 have also been completing number patterns.
e.g. 32, 33, 34, 35. We would say this number pattern is going forwards and increasing by 1 each time.
45, 44, 43, 42: This pattern is going backwards by 1 each time.
Patterns can jump in steps of 2s, 5s, 3s (any number!). We will continue to work on this as the children struggled to work out if a pattern was going forwards or backwards. Using a 100 square helped us.
In Computing we recapped our learning on coding on J2Code. They inputted algorithms (a sequence of instructions) to move a sprite.
In DT the children planned and designed their own clay transport figure that they will make in the coming weeks. We practised our ideas using playdough then drew our designs.
In RE Year 1 continued our work on “belonging” and thought about how Muslims show they belong by going on a pilgrimage to Mecca.
Have a brilliant weekend Year 1 and see you on Monday!
