Week ending 7th October

Thank you to those parents who were able to attend the Curriculum evening on Tuesday. We hope that you found this useful in helping support your child’s learning at home.

Literacy- We have been continuing the traditional tale The Three Little Pigs this week. The children have really impressed us with their use of repeated refrains such as ‘little pig, little pig let me in’ and ‘not by the hair on my chinny chin chin’. They are all able to retell this story which is fantastic too! Next week we will be focusing on the stories Goldilocks and the Three Bears and The Three Billy Goats Gruff.

Maths- This week the children have been learning to recognise and describe the properties of 2D shapes. The children particularly enjoyed going onto the playground with skipping ropes. The children were put into groups of 3 or 4 and asked to make a shape using their ropes that had 3 or 4 sides. We have also been looking at a range of different triangles and talked about what makes a triangle. There’s no such thing as an upside down triangle!

Phonics- This week we have been learning the phonemes (sounds) for the graphemes (letters) h, b, f and l. We also learned that ff, ll and ss are two letters that make one sound and that these graphemes can be found at the end of words e.g. stuff, fill, miss.

Welly Wednesday- The children were very excited about conker collecting on the church meadow this week and could not believe just how many conkers there were! We took our containers full of conkers into the Forest School area along with the drainpipes and made some amazing conker runs with our friends.

RE- The children really enjoyed exploring in the jelly and creating jellyfish out of playdough and craft materials after listening to the Creation story from the Holy Bible. We talked about Christians believing God as the Creator and the giver of life. We have also been discussing the reason for celebrating Harvest and the children drew a picture of their favourite food and thanked God for it.

A reminder that next week is Parents Evening. We look forward to seeing you then!

Have a wonderful weekend Reception!
