Week ending 14th October

Thank you to those parents who were able to attend parents evening this week. It was lovely to share with you how your child is getting on. We are so proud of Reception class and how well they have settled in and enjoyed their first half term at school. We cannot believe it is the last week next week.

Remember it is our Tardebigge Trek on Monday which you are more than welcome to join us for.

On Thursday it is our Time to Rhyme end of topic day in which the children will be having a Jack and the Beanstalk banquet. Parents are welcome to join us at 2.45 in the Community hall for some of the celebrations.

Maths- The children voted for their favourite breakfast, recorded this in a chart and then used the results to create a pictogram using pictures for the different breakfasts. We talked about which was the most popular breakfast in Reception and which was the least popular. We have also been creating patterns this week using children (e.g. girl, boy, girl boy or trousers, dress, trousers, dress), shapes and colours (e.g. yellow, green, blue, yellow, green, blue). Spotting patterns is an excellent mathematical skill to develop.

Literacy- On Monday we shared the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears and even had a visit from Goldilocks! The children loved making and tasting porridge with Goldilocks and had a go at writing the ingredients needed. The children have also loved retelling the story The Three Billy Goats Gruff using finger puppets in the small world play and masks. Some of the children filmed their brilliant acting and we watched these together on the board.

PE- The children really enjoyed travelling in different ways on the apparatus. We talked about being adventurous with our movements along the benches and the children practised balancing on different body parts as they did so.

Phonics- This week the children have been learning the graphemes j, v, w and x. Ask your child to sing the song and show you the action for each of the graphemes. You can find these Jolly Phonics songs on YouTube.

Next week we will be focusing on the story Jack and the Beanstalk to finish off our Time to Rhyme topic. Watch this space to find out our new topic after half term!

Enjoy your weekend!
