Firstly, thank you to all those parents who were able to attend the parents evening sessions this week. It was lovely to share with you just how well your children are coming along. We are so proud of all of the children in the Reception class.
Literacy- The children have been writing sentences for our story 'Dinosaurs in my school'. The children have really thought carefully about what their sentence is going to say about their naughty dinosaur causing mischief around school. We then said our sentence aloud, sounded out the words carefully, used finger spaces between the words and when we had finished, we checked our writing. The children used a finger 'spaceman' to help them include spaces between each of the words they are writing.
Maths- This week the children have been solving dinosaur subtraction number problems using dinosaurs, double-sided counters and ten frames. The children are becoming much more confident when explaining how they have solved a problem. We are encouraging the children to talk through their working outs and responding to us asking them to 'prove it.'
Phonics- This week the children have been learning the tricky words so, do, little, some and come. By now you should have received some train tricky words. Please practise reading these at home, along with their tricky word trucks and penguin tricky words. Recognising these tricky words will help with your child's fluency. Thank you for your continued support with your child's reading. We can really see the impact!
IT and Computing- The children have been thinking about what we use IT for in our everyday lives such as the washing machine, television, vehicles etc. They have also been using the iPads to record different sounds. They will be using these recordings to create a soundtrack for a dinosaur photo story.
Have a wonderful weekend Reception and we will see you on Monday!
