It has been a lovely week back after the half-term break. This half-term is particularly exciting, as we have two new faces in the class - Miss Harper and Miss Cowen, who are teacher training students that will be with us for 6 weeks. The children have already made them feel very welcome!
In Phonics we have started learning Phase 5 sounds! This week we learned 'ay', 'ou', 'ie' and 'ea'. We will keep learning new sounds this half-term and will be revising some more familiar ones too.
We have been practising letter formation daily in handwriting lessons and the children and working really hard to form the letters properly, including using their sweeps and flicks!
In our Learning Opportunities time, the children have loved getting creative with some Bonfire Night themed activities this week. They have used their Phonics knowledge to sound out and spell some fire themed words and write them onto different coloured flames. They have also created fire pictures using hand printing and used different craft materials to build rockets. We have used numicon and part-whole diagrams to explore number bonds too.
I was really impressed with the teamwork on display in Forest School this week! After I showed the children a timber hitch knot, a few of them began to try and pull the huge logs that the rope was tied to. This turned into a very large group very quickly, and before long they were able to work together to pull heavy logs around Forest School. The children really enjoyed working together and had a real sense of accomplishment after moving something so heavy!
Have a great weekend everyone,
