Welcome to Year 1
A Rainbow of Opportunity
'Human potential is without limit if we are motivated and engaged.'
We believe that children should experience life in all of its fullness (John 10:10).
With a growth mindset, you can do anything.
I will be posting weekly news and updates between here and our Class Dojo page. We also have a Year 1 class blog that is updated with what we have been doing in school. Please read and share this with your child.
Monday 6th September 2021 - TERM STARTS
Friday 22nd October 2021 - LAST DAY OF FIRST HALF TERM
Monday 25th October - Friday 29th October 2020 - HALF TERM BREAK
PE will be taught every Monday and Tuesday afternoons. PE kits are not required to be kept in school, please can children come to school wearing their PE kit on Mondays amd Tuesdays, they will wear them throughout the day.
Forest School will be take place every Friday morning. We ask children to wear their school jumper/top with jogging bottoms for the day. As our Forest School session will take place first thing on Friday mornings, please can the children can come to school dressed in their Forest School waterproofs, but with their wellies in a named bag which they will then take their muddy clothes home in. They can wear school shoes or trainers and change into wellies in the barn after the register.
It is also advised that they bring some spare clothes with them too, as the waterproofs are not always 100% mud proof on very wet days! If children get particularly wet or muddy underneath their waterproofs, we will always try to offer them spare clothes, but we may not have enough in school, so it is much easier if the children have their own spares, just in case!
Our Gold award is given to children who have been recognised for their effort and positive mindset.
Our Platinum award recognises children who display Christian values every day.
Gold - Adam
Platinum - Lily
A letter with more details will be handed out when homework begins.
Reading: The children should be reading at home 10 minutes every night. Please record when your child has read in their reading diary and team points will be awarded for reading 5 times a week. They could read their Guided Reading book, a home reader or a book from home. The key is to read little and often. Please question your child when reading to develop their comprehension skills.
Spelling Shed - Spelling Shed can be played as much as you see fit! Assignments will change weekly based on our Phonics learning in school. There will also be a continuous assignment based on Common Exception Words (tricky words that can't be sounded out).
We are currently revising Phase 3 Phonics, here is the list of sounds we have been learning.
